    Lucy Woodward & the Rocketeers

Lucy Woodward is a powerhouse singer whose soulful, impeccably controlled vocals will turn on a dime, from a runaway-train full-throttle intensity to a soft, slow burning sultry whisper, only to take you back into an inferno. Lucy Woodward & The Rocketeers was released in summer 2024 on GroundUP Music. The album features her bespoke 18-person jazz collective – featuring musicians from countries such as The Netherlands, Italy and Ghana – inspired by American composers such as Donny Hathaway and Billy Strayhorn. With dynamic arrangements explicitly written to match Lucy’s passionate vocal manner, color, and timbre; the songs range from high-energy explosions to hauntingly intimate meditations. Throughout her career, Lucy has always genre-bended. And with this jazz orchestra, The Rocketeers, each musician carefully chosen for the project, pulls inspiration from the icons of jazz and pulsing vibrations from the then to the now and future music makers.

    Faces of Earth | Diamonds

The return of colonial jewelry is a contemporary topic. These pieces are often tied to the history of diamond mining and trade during the colonial era. The wealth of one comes at the expense of another. Faces of Earth | Diamonds tells a controversial story of brilliance and power.

    Martin Fondse Voice Orchestra

A hybrid ensemble comprising six women and five men, featuring inspiring new musicians alongside a few familiar players. A balance of experience and emerging talent, complemented by the authentic Norwegian saxophonist Trygve Seim with a unique style and sound. The music blends composition and improvisation, engaging with contemporary issues.

The women’s group Vox Sturnus adds a powerful new dimension to the orchestra’s music through the use of text. With contemplative and sharp commentary, and poetry from writers like Shakespeare (e.g., “My crown is in my heart, not on my head, Not decked with diamonds and Indian stones” from Henry the Sixth), they perform like the chorus in a Greek tragedy.

The ensemble’s flexibility—nearly every singer also plays an instrument, and all musicians are multi-instrumental—creates an endless palette of colors and sounds.

Originally, Faces of Earth | Diamonds was commissioned by Bimhuis, Amsterdam.

Martin Fondse – piano, Fender Rhodes, vibrandoneon
Miguel Boelens – alto sax, bass clarinet

    listen closer to the score

As a composer I hear more than once people liked the movie but didn’t really pay attention to the music. That’s a good thing! But…. I would like to give you the chance to take a closer listen at the score!

This is some music I wrote for “Under The Apple Tree” a animated horror comedy golden calf awarded movie made by the great Erik van Schaaik. In this music I tried to combine opposites like gentleness & cold blooded murder, beauty & filthiness and more like that.

Bei mir bist du schön takes place in a small living room, so the music is more intimate. I choose acoustic instruments to give a warm and intimate feeling.

Voltaire is an insecure weathercock, living on an insignificant
countryside chapel. One night after being blasted off by a
lightning strike, he takes a chance on moving to a beautiful,
faraway cathedral. But he’s not the only one there…

For the little kids I composed the music for an animation series called Picnic with Cake. It was so much fun molding the main theme in such a wide variety of music styles! Here is the main theme in just a few of those styles:
