In this concert, the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra takes on the challenge with guitarist Anton Goudsmit. Anton Goudsmit is the Netherlands’ most musically bouncy ball. He became known with the New Cool Collective, his own band The Ploctones and many other diverse projects. In 2010, he received the VPRO Boy Edgar Award. Anton oscillates between jazz, ripping rock, free improv, funk, and everything in between, making him an ideal challenger for the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, which was completely revamped at the end of 2011. Under this name, the former big band has undergone a complete transformation in style and lineup. The orchestra is no longer a big band, but continues as a 13-piece jazz collective that explores the boundaries of all musical styles. “Push and audacity, a commentary on the present and a search for the edges. A soloist with bravado, a wind section inspired by the moment, interacting with the rhythm section,” according to de Volkskrant.
